General Terms & Conditions

DRIVER'S QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age is 25 years. A valid driving license held for at least one (1) year is required. Drivers between 21 - 24 years old can rent groups A, B & K after accepting an additional Young Driver Surcharge (YDS) and under the condition that they hold driver's license for at least 1 year. Drivers over the age of 71 years are subject to a Senior Driver Surcharge.

All drivers must hold a valid Credit Card accepted by Supplier for all necessary pre-authorization amounts and settlement of final rental charges.

YOUNG DRIVER'S SURCHARGE: Young Driver Surcharge (YDS) allows customers between 21 and 24 years of age to rent Groups A, B & K, under the condition that they hold a driver's license for at least 12 months prior to the pickup day, for an additional charge of €7/rental day, with a maximum charge of €70.

GRACE RENTAL PERIOD: At end of agreed rental period Hertz allows a grace period of 29 minutes free of charge after which, the renter will be charged with a minimum of one full day rental.

EARLY RETURN / EXTENSION OF RENTAL: No refund for any unused voucher value/rental days. Ongoing rental extension should be arranged with Hertz Croatia at least 48 hours before the intended/reserved rental expiry, to be charged as per valid retail tariff.

THIRD PARTY LIABILITY: Basic insurance includes limited coverage on bodily injury to persons other than the driver up to EUR 5,6mil and on property damage up to EUR 1,1mil to anything other than the Hertz vehicle.

DRIVING RESTRICTIONS: Vehicle may not be driven across any of the Croatian borders without prior written approval by Hertz Croatia, except when crossing the Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina borders on the A8 main road (route E65) between Split and Dubrovnik. Failure to comply with these restrictions makes void all insurance policies and customer fully liable and responsible in case of a theft, accident, damages to the vehicle and any resulting consequences.

CROSS BORDER FEE: All vehicles except luxury categories might be allowed to travel abroad under special conditions and only on Request from the local Hertz Office. Request must be made 5 days in advance of the rental pick up date and the cost is 25€.

ISLAND / FERRYBOAT TRAVEL FEE: If the client takes the car on a ferry, the purchase of Island/Ferryboat Travel Fee is mandatory for €2/day. In case the client fails to purchase this product and this results in a damage to the car on a Ferry, all other protections are invalid and the customer will be held liable for the damages.

TRAFFIC FINES: All traffic fines will be paid by the renter. If not, Hertz will pay them and will charge the customer with the full amount of traffic fine plus the Incident Administration Fee, 40€ per case, in order to cover all administration expenses.

COLISSION DAMAGE WAIVER (CDW): The renters liability for damage to the rented vehicle, can be reduced, under the condition that the Croatian Traffic Law is not violated, to a minimum charge of 850€ for Groups A, B, K, 1,000€ for Groups C, D, M, 1,300€ for Group N, 1,800€ for Group YL,V4 by paying €14, €16, €21 and €32 per day respectively. Damage to the underside of the car, the wheels & tyres or loss of the vehicle's keys/car documents are not covered.

SUPER COLISSION DAMAGE WAIVER (SCDW): Can be accepted only after acceptance of (CDW) and The renter may reduce the above liability to a minimum charge of 200€ for Groups A, B, K, 250€ for Groups C, D, M, 300€ for Group N, , 375€ for Group YL,V4 by purchasing the additional daily coverage, by paying additionally €9, €10, €13 and €20 per day respectively. Liability may in no case be restricted or cancelled at partial theft, loss of parts, accessories, documents, at damage to tyres and any other part on the undercarriage of the vehicle.

THEFT PROTECTION (TP): The renter's liability for theft can be reduced to 850€ for Groups A, B, K; 1,000€ for Groups C, D, M; 1,300€ for Group N ; 1,800€ for Group YL,V4 by paying €7, €8, €11 and €16 per day respectively.

SUPER COVER: Τhe renter can be covered (with zero excess) in case of total theft or damage to the Hertz vehicle, provided that the renter has previously accepted the relevant coverage charges for CDW, SCDW, and TP with a daily charge of €4 for groups A, B, K, €5 for groups C, D, M, €6 for Group N and €7 for Group YL,V4 or has a reservation inclusive of these coverages. The following cases are not covered:

Damage to the underside of the car, the wheels & tyres, broken car glass or loss of the vehicle keys and documents,
Burnt clutch,
Any damage due to the lack of oil or as a result of usage of incorrect fuel,
Damage to vehicle by being blasted, mined, or intentionally burned,
Damage caused due to influence by alcohol or drugs,
Damage caused by an unauthorized driver.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT COVERAGE (PAC): For a daily charge of €4, it insures driver and passengers in case of an accident involving rented vehicle. Amounts insured are in accordance with valid terms and conditions of the insurance company.

INCIDENT ADMINISTRATION FEE (IAF): In case of an accident due to the renter's liability, the renter has the obligation to pay to Hertz a non-refundable fee of €40 to cover administration expenses.

FUEL POLICY: For rental durations of 1-2 days, the customer should return the car with the same quantity of fuel as shown at the time of pickup. In the event that the customer returns it with less quantity, the customer will be charged the value of the missing fuel. Additionally, a Refueling Service Charge will be applied, which today is €20.

For rental durations of three (3) days or more, the customer is required to prepay the cost of the quantity of fuel which is in the tank of the rented car at the pickup time. Upon returning the car –and only at this time– the customer may ask to be refunded with the value of the fuel in the tank at that time. In this instance, if the quantity of fuel in the tank is less than the one the customer has prepaid, then the Refuelling Service Charge will be applied, which today is €20. Any refund due will be processed through customer's credit/debit card.

The price per litre of fuel used is the average fuel price for the area where the car was rented. The Refueling Service Charge is €20, while Hertz reserves the right to change it in the future without prior notice. Any fuel refunds, disputes etc. must be resolved with Hertz staff at the time of the vehicle’s return. Hertz will not consider any disputes once the final invoice has been issued. A fuel policy leaflet is available on all Hertz Desks in five languages."

TYRE & WINDSHIELD COVERAGE: Tyre and Windshield Coverage provides cover against consequences of damages on tires, windscreen, side windows and back windowm by paying and additional charge of €5 for groups A, B, K, €6 C, D, M, €7 for group N and €8 for group YL,V4. If TGI is not accepted, the client will be held liable for the full value of damage on tires, windscreen, side windows and back window. .

CHILD SEATS: Child seats are mandatory in Croatia for children up to 6 years old. Hertz offers safety seats for children from 6 months upwards for all vehicle groups and from all locations. The additional fee is EUR 15 per day with a maximum of EUR 150 per rental. One-way rentals are allowed within and outside Croatia with no additional fee for the equipment. If the equipment is lost or damaged, the amount of EUR 150 will be added to your rental charge.

ADDITIONAL DRIVERS: Additional driver surcharge is EUR 8 per day with a maximum of EUR 80 per rental and per additional driver.

GPS: The additional fee is EUR 10 per day with a maximum of EUR 100 per each rental.

WINTERIZATION FEE: Mandatory charge to client's credit card during the period from 15th November until 15th April.

ONE WAY RENTALS: A one way rental is a rental which starts at one location and terminates at another. Domestic one-way fee for all directions inside Croatia is 300 EUR, within the same city (Airport-downtown) is free of charge. International one-way rentals are also available but are subject to availability and fees quoted upon request.

DELIVERY/COLLECTIONS: Delivery/Collection outside Hertz offices is available on request basis. Minimum charge for Delivery or Collection close to a Hertz station is 14€ per Delivery/Collection. Deliveries or collections outside working hours are charged €25 per case.

TAXES: All above rates and charges are subjected to Croatian V.A.T. and other local fees.

AVAILABILITY: Hertz reserves the right to provide a different car model to that originally reserved of an equivalent or higher model type.

CURRENCY: All amounts quoted in EUR/Euro for information purpose and advance payment, charges at location in Croatian Kuna/HRK at the Croatian National Bank exchange rate.
